Dolphin Beach, Cape Town

One of my favourite places to walk my dogs in Cape Town! There are not many beaches where you are permitted to walk your dogs off leash but fortunately this is allowed at the beautiful Dolphin Beach.

Dolphin beach falls under the area known as Bloubergstrand which literally means “blue mountain beach” in Afrikaans. The beaches of Bloubergstrand are best for the classic view of Table Mountain across the bay. The water is really cold due to the cold Benguela current but the beach is popular with surfers and kiteboarders due to the constant wind.

The long white sandy beach stretches from Lagoon Beach in Milnerton all the way up the West Coast. Some of the most popular West Coast areas to spend a relaxing weekend include Big Bay, Yzerfontein, Jacobs Bay, Laangebaan, Paternoster, Shelley Point and Elands Bay (great surfing spot). Jacobs Bay and Paternoster are lovely with rustic cottages overlooking the water while Mykonos in Laangebaan is a very popular family destination with the tranquil lagoon and Greek style architecture.
